Fast Food
We associate fast food with buying a quick, convenient, and inexpensive meal from a take away food store.
It is generally food prepared and cooked by someone else, so you can eat it on the spot, or take it away with you. The food is generally prepared in advance, then immediately cooked when ordered.
These foods exist because you want a quick meal solution. You are often in a hurry...you worked late, everyone is hungry NOW! You have evening activities after work, or need to take children to activities... and pick them up afterwards. And you do not (have the time to) factor in the time necessary to buy ingredients, prepare, and cook a healthy meal at home.
Thus the quick and easy meal industry has developed. Along with this our need has developed, and more choices of food have come on the market.
Fast food is made to be tasty because the outlets want you come and buy another inexpensive meal. They add salt or sugar to enhance the taste of the food. The foods are often cooked in (unhealthy) oils which add to the taste. To keep take away food inexpensive, the cheap cuts of meat, cheap oils, refined grains are used. Salt or sugar are added to further enhance the taste of the food.
Quick and easy food is now in supermarkets, oven or microwave ready... you buy a frozen or prepacked, sometimes partly cooked, inexpensive meal, and heat it up at home.
However, some of these foods ARE fresh, uncooked, ready to eat and healthy.
