Preventable Diseases
We tend to accept diseases simply as part of getting old. However, many diseases are now interestingly being called preventable diseases.
It means that perhaps we no longer need to look forward to ill health as we age.
These 'preventable' diseases include: type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, high stress, stroke, osteoporosis, accelerated aging process, liver and kidney disease, allergies and many cancers, including colon and breast cancer, etc., etc..
This huge variety of diseases is throught to be triggered by an unhealthy diet, and according to some studies, up to 70% of us are likely to die from one of these preventable diseases.
Add to these diseases that sluggish feeling, lack of energy, swinging moods and last but not least obesity, and we begin to realise how important it is to get the balance right, because a healthy balanced diet is possible.
The balance we need is being controlled by diet, by what we eat to nourish our body, our nutrition.
The 7 essential nutrients for a healthy body and diet are Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat, Fibre, Water, Minerals and Vitamins.
About 75% of our daily food we eat should be carbohydrate (good carbohydrate) The rest is made up of Protein and Fat.
Fibre is present in carbohydrate. Water is present in most foods (but we need to drink more), and Fat is present in Protein (meat and dairy products). Vitamins and minerals are present in the other foods.
To learn about these foods, to understand why we need to eat these foods, and which foods should be avoided, read the more about nutrition section. You'll learn about the essentials of a healthy diet.
It is important to take our nutrition seriously to stop the development of preventable diseases and unhappiness as we get older.
